The textbook keeps relative consistency in content as to the compilation of texts and design of exercises, but with the two parts putting different emphasis on listening and speaking. Paying special attention to scientificity, interestingness and practicability, the texts are characterized by a wide range of topics and rich and vivid language. Based on a funtional approach, arrangements are made for words, structures, forms, sentence patterns and other linguistic expressions to serve specific purposes.
